Class descriptions

Basketball - Tuesdays - $90

Come join our very own PBES P.E. teacher, Coach Russell, to have fun and learn the official rules of basketball.  Students will learn and improve their dribbling, jumping, passing and shooting skills through drills. Students will apply these skills while participating in three on three tournaments. Offered by PBES Coach Russell.

Chess Enrichment Club - Wednesdays - $164

Enter into the magical and exciting world of chess with Chess Wizards! You will participate in epic chess games, fun and interactive lessons, tournaments, team matches, trivia and more! Our specialized classes are a blast for everyone kindergarten through fifth. Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends - Chess Wizards is the place for you!

Comic Creations - Tuesdays - $156

Do you have a knack for drawing? Do you like to write? We have the class for you! Come join us as we explore the world of comics. We will learn about the different styles of cartooning, create new characters, and build a portfolio of your work.  Taught by Little Scholars.

Found Materials Art Club - Thursdays - $177

This after school club lays the foundation for your child's creativity to soar and for him/her to embrace the process of art-making. Teacher, Leslie Milofsky, Unearthed Arts, is a Piney Branch ES fifth grade parent, former DC Public Schools art therapist, and adjunct professor in the Art Therapy Program at GW University. Each class introduces new techniques to inspire your child to bring a fresh perspective to art-making at home, school or in the community. Projects may include found plastic mobiles, glassware or shells repurposed as canvas, transparency collages, painted objects from nature, and  found glass mosaic.

Karate - Wednesdays - $164

Students learn the basic levels of martial arts while participating in a fun, exciting atmosphere. Class is tailored to student’s individual needs and helps them grow to their fullest potential possible. Karate classes not only focus on instruction, but also learning valuable lessons related to discipline, motivation, self-control, and continual improvement. Lead by Kaizen.

Make Me Laugh, the Art of Improv - Tuesdays - $123

Round House Theatre brings the fun and games of theatre to your school! Tickle your funny bone! Students will learn to think quickly, make big choices, and create collaboratively while exploring the humor of everyday life through improvisational games and exercises.

Mindful Fitness - Thursdays - $156

Need a little mindful exercise in your life?  Well…move as fast as you can for a class full of fitness, fun and mindfulness! We will not just be running; we will play games, have spirited team challenges and participate in activities to create a mindful state.  Participants will receive weekly mindfulness badges. Taught by Little Scholars.

Newspaper - Wednesdays - $156

Ladies and Gentlemen! Get it hot off the press! The first edition of the school newspaper needs your help. Students will enjoy this exciting class as they create authentic newspaper stories. As they are transformed into reporters and editors, the students will publish their own school newspaper. Taught by Little Scholars.

Soccer - Wednesdays - $90

This soccer club will focus on basic skill development, including passing, dribbling, and shooting, and allow students to put those skills into practice in a short game each session. Further, participants will learn about sportsmanship and how to work together as a team. Most importantly, students will gain confidence in their soccer abilities and have fun! Participants must bring shin guards and appropriate shoes (cleats or tennis shoes).  Taught by PBES teacher, Ms. Plummer.

STEM - Tuesdays - $120

Join us for a STEM club with Ms. Patrick. This fall we will be focusing on alternative energy systems. Students will explore basic principles of magnets and test how magnets can be used to move objects and for transportation. Students will create a magnetic sailing “boat” and cars for a magnetic levitation train system and act and think like a transportation engineer. Taught by PBES teacher, Ms. Patrick.

World of Wizards - Thursdays - $178

Calling all wizard fans!  This is like no other class you have ever experienced. We will take a magical journey into the world of wizards.  We will design trading cards, make a personal crest, create a treasure hunt, have a Triwizard tournament, and participate in activities that will astound all Muggles. Taught by Little Scholars.
